Three selfies taken by Taylor Swift showing herself and her cats.

Hey guys, it’s Taylor.

I’m so excited to be writing a guest post for melatonin gone missing! Melissa has been one of my biggest fans for fifteen years now, so I’m really happy I’m getting the chance to do this for her, and I’m completely honored that she considers me her cultural hero. I was told to use this space to talk about whatever I’m passionate about, or what inspires me or reflects who I am as an artist or a person. My answer to all of these prompts is cats, of course. So, allow me to present… Which Cat Breed is Each of My Albums!

Taylor Swift – Siberian

Like my debut album, siberians are friendly and approachable, as they love to be around people. Plus, that fluffy fur coat reminds me of my hair back then.

Fearless (Taylor’s Version) – Maine Coon

On the left is the album cover of "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a maine coon cat.

Maine coon cats are known for being curious and adventurous, which are basically synonyms of ‘fearless’ right? Fearless has created huge milestones during two separate times in my life, thanks to Taylor’s Version which I am so proud of. Maine coons’ loyal companionship is what Fearless is to me and my fans. Speak Now – Siamese

On the left is the album cover of "Speak Now" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a siamese cat.

Speak Now is the only album I’ve written with zero co-writers, and I did that because people didn’t think I could. Extremely intelligent and vocal, siamese cats don’t back down from speaking their mind even when nobody is listening.

Red (Taylor’s Version) – American Bobtail

On the left is the album cover of "Red (Taylor's Version)" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of an American bobtail cat.

Red included a lot of new and unexpected elements, compared to my first two albums. Bringing a pop sound into my repertoire was a risk I was ready to take, and expanding my stories in Taylor’s Version years later was another. American bobtails are confident and unafraid, matching the energy for my third album. Listen to the album on Spotify here.

1989 – Birman

On the left is the album cover of "1989" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a birman cat.

Social and active, yet soft and luxurious, birman cats encapsulate 1989’s exciting, fresh sound and the romantically wild lyrics. Just by looking at them you can tell they’re twins.

reputation – Sphynx

On the left is the album cover of "reputation" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a sphynx cat.

This one feels self-explanatory, wouldn’t you agree? For some reason, I find the most loving, warm-hearted things tend to have the most cruel reputations. Completely misunderstood, I think sphynx cats and reputation would have a lot to talk about.

Lover – Ragdoll

On the left is the album cover of "Lover" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a ragdoll cat.

I adopted my ragdoll kitten Benjamin Button right off the set of my music video for “Me!”, so of course Lover had to be ragdolls. Aside from my personal bias, ragdolls are also really loving and affectionate which fits the album theme perfectly. Listen to the album on Spotify here.

folklore – Russian Blue

On the left is the album cover of "folklore" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a Russian blue cat.

The cool greys of a russian blue were too uncanny to folklore’s cover art for them to not be paired, but the similarities don’t stop there. Russian blues are quiet, gentle, and affectionate, complimenting the tone of my first alternative album. Listen to the album on Spotify here.

evermore – LaPerm

On the left is the album cover of "evermore" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a LaPerm cat.

The sister album to folklore, evermore came to be because I couldn’t stop writing these magnificent stories. LaPerm cats are inquisitive, calm, and uniquely distinguishable, much like the tales (tails, get it? hahahahaha) that are told in evermore. Listen to the album on Spotify here.

Midnights – Bombay

On the left is the album cover of "Taylor Swift" by Taylor Swift, on the right is a photo of a bombay cat.

Midnights just had to be a black cat, right? I mean, it would be wrong otherwise. This concept album about sleepless nights (similar to this blog!) has an energetic, wild, but easy-going feel to it, just like bombay cats. Listen to the album on Spotify here.

I had so much fun writing this post. A million thank yous to Melissa for having me on melatonin gone missing and letting me go on and on about my favourite topic: cat breeds!!! I hope these cats will inspire you to listen to my albums, if you haven’t already. Thank you for all of your support, as always!! Love you guys!!!
